Schaeffler Spin-off Receives Award for Corporate Design and Vehicle Design

Nuremberg, 09/27/2019

•    Schaeffler Bio‑Hybrid GmbH wins Red Dot Award in two categories

•    Sustainable mobility solution of tomorrow convinces renowned jury

•    Visionary vehicle concept receives particular emphasis

•    Test stage of the Bio‑Hybrid successfully underway

Schaeffler Bio‑Hybrid GmbH has won two prizes in this year’s Red Dot Award competition. The Bio‑Hybrid mobility solution that will go into regular production at the end of 2020 initially convinced the jury in the “Design Concept” category. The judges particularly emphasized the look and feel of the vehicle as an individual and design-oriented form of transportation in urban environments. Of the more than 4,200 entries from 48 countries only some 250 were recognized with an award.

The Schaeffler spin-off received the second award in the “Communication Design” category. The prize will be presented in Berlin at the beginning of November and recognizes the company’s identity-promoting corporate design.

“Both prizes are the result of hard work invested by the entire team and show that we’ve been making the right decisions in recent months,” says Gerald Vollnhals, General Manager of Schaeffler Bio‑Hybrid GmbH. The organizers exclusively selected novel concepts and ready-to-use products that are not available on the market every year. “The Bio‑Hybrid stands for a new form of transportation and closes the mobility gap between the bicycle and the automobile,” Vollnhals adds.

Combining functionality and design

“Our idea of design not only encompasses the vehicle’s look. We want to especially combine the functionality and suitability of the Bio‑Hybrid for everyday use with the purely visual,” emphasizes Patrick Seidel, who is responsible for Strategy and Business Development at Schaeffler Bio‑Hybrid GmbH. The common goal, he says, is to create a contemporary means of transportation for urban and eco-friendly mobility.

The Bio‑Hybrid aims to pursue new paths together with its customers

Red Dot Award number two went to Schaeffler Bio‑Hybrid GmbH for its dedicated corporate design development. The jury evaluated the originality and creativity of the idea, the design quality and innovation of its form, and the lucidity of its effect. “Driving a Bio‑Hybrid should not just be emission-free and contemporary but also be fun and look good. Our visual appearance is intended to promote identity also in terms of our corporate design and positively charge the brand,” says Jakub Fukacz, Director Marketing and Communications at Schaeffler Bio‑Hybrid GmbH.

The “H” in the Bio‑Hybrid logo stands for both the hybrid theme and for a plus – an element that refers to the connection between humans and technology and that in its specific styling may stand for the new Bio‑Hybrid mobility concept in the future. The colorful “flow,” derived from the formal language of the logo, points out new paths which the Bio‑Hybrid is intended to pursue together with its customers.

Prestigious award has been presented since 1955

The Red Dot Design Award is a design competition organized by Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. in which prizes are awarded in the categories of Product Design, Communication Design and Design Concept. The Award competition was held for the first time in 1955 and individual categories were added later. In 2005, a collaborative partnership was established with the Red Dot Museum in Singapore.

All functional features of the subsequent production models are being tested

Since this summer the prototypes of the Bio‑Hybrid, which have all the functional features of the subsequent production models, have been subjected to intensive drive tests. The launch of regular production is targeted for the end of 2020.
